Edwin Walter Klein Sr., 81, formerly of Dow, died at 5:13 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2020 at The Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was born on January 7, 1939 and was the son of Walter Cleveland and Edna Mae (Calhoun) Klein Jr. He enlisted with the United States Army, and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1965.
He grew up in Jersey County and resided in Dow for a number of years, prior to moving to North Carolina, where he worked as a Diesel Mechanic at East Carolina Trucking.
He married the former Ruth Ann Whitlock on July 6, 1964 in Jerseyville and together they were blessed with 47 years of marriage, prior to her death on January 7, 2012.
Surviving are five children and their spouses, Ronald Lee (Ruth Ann) Kemp of Louisburg, NC; Edwin Walter Jr. (Nicole) of Stem, NC; Christine Marie Webster of Hardin; Debra Darlene Klein of Wendell, NC and Starla (Cardell) Dow of St. Paris, OH; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their spouses, Richard Klein of Grafton; William (Carlene) Klein of Grafton; and Roy (Caroline) Klein of Easton, KS; six sisters and their spouses, Mary Jane Legate of Alton; Ruth Ann (Lee) Woods of Lincoln; Jean Marie (Gary) Pinkard of Grafton; Emily (David) Carroll of Carrollton; Diana Lynn (Dick) Sunblade of Bolingbrook and Suzanne Denise (Byron) Bowling of Murphysboro.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Eugene Klein; a brother, Dale Klein; a sister, Edna Margaret Sparks; two brothers in-law, Joe Sparks and Orn Legate; as well as a sister in-law, Florence Klein.
Due to current mandates surrounding COVID-19, private burial will take place at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the family, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
