WOOD RIVER - The Wood River Police Department said it recently concluded an undercover narcotics investigation at a residence in the 500 block of North 1st Street in Wood River, Illinois, culminating in the execution of a search warrant at about 6:15 a.m. June 12, 2026, with the detention of people inside the home.

According to the Wood River Police Department, the investigation began after suspected drug activity, ordinance violations, and occupancy-related concerns at the residence. Police said officers conducted controlled purchases of suspected illegal narcotics from an individual associated with the residence, and a search warrant was later issued by the Madison County Circuit Court based on the evidence obtained.

“We are committed to protecting the quality of life for those who live, work, and visit our city. We have made it clear that the members of the Wood River Police Department will continue to investigate individuals who choose to engage in illegal activity, especially the distribution and use of illegal narcotics,” Chief Brad Wells said.

The warrant was executed by members of the Wood River Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Madison County Sheriff's Enforcement Team, or S.E.T., the department said. The Madison County S.E.T. is a multi-agency tactical unit made up of members of the Madison County Sheriff's Office and various law enforcement agencies throughout Madison County.

Police said four individuals — three males and one female — were found inside the residence and detained during the search. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of evidence was submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory for further analysis, according to the department.

Three individuals were taken into custody pending review of the evidence and the filing of formal charges, police said.

The department thanked the U.S. Marshals Service and Madison County Sheriff Jeff Connor's Sheriff's Enforcement Team for assisting in the operation.
