WOOD RIVER — Breese Central’s girls basketball team used a strong third quarter to pull away from Edwardsville for a 42-28 victory on Saturday at the Mike Fahnestock State Farm Shootout in Wood River.

The Breese Central Lady Cougars led 15-8 after the first quarter, then saw Edwardsville close the gap to 21-17 by halftime.

Breese Central extended its advantage in the third quarter, taking a 39-21 lead. Edwardsville outscored Breese Central 7-3 in the fourth, but the Lady Cougars held on for the 14-point victory.

Journey Anderson led the Edwardsville Lady Tigers with eight points, and Kennedy Gieseking added six.

Lexy Santel paced Breese Central with 10 points. Taylor Trame and Lilly Butler scored eight points apiece.

Breese Central's Taylor Trame was the MVP.
