Werden is a solid defensive catcher who also provides great leadership skills to the Tigers, and is expected to do the same for the Lakers in the spring of 2027. Last season, Werden was a key player for Edwardsville, hitting .302 with no home runs and nine RBIs, stealing three bases, drawing six walks and fanning eight times, but her superior defensive skills helped the Tigers at key times during the season, helping Edwardsville to a 26-9 record, losing in the IHSA Class 4A sectional final to Bradley-Bourbonnais 6-1 on June 6.

Werden is a Spencer Homes Female Athlete Of The Month for the Tigers.

Werden was also a key player for the Tigers' flag football team this fall in their inaugural season in helping Edwardsville to a 15-2 record, 5-1 to win the first-ever Southwestern Conference title, and a berth in the state quarterfinals, losing to Chicago Perspectives/Leadership Academy 14-13 on Oct. 17.

Werden will bring much to the table for both the Tigers, as she prepares for her senior campaign, and to the Lakers when she starts play for Lake Land in 2027.

The Tigers' softball season is scheduled to start on St. Patrick's Day, Mar. 17, 2026, at home against Freeburg.

Senior Remi Werden may be better known for being an outstanding catcher for the Edwardsville High School softball team, but this past fall, she also made her mark on the inaugural girls flag football team as well, helping the Tigers to a 15-2 record, the first-ever Southwestern Conference championship, and a berth in the IHSA state quarterfinals in the team's first season.

In the Danville sectional semifinal, a 32-13 win over Mascoutah on Oct. 13 at Triad High School's Knights Stadium, Werden caught three passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in advancing the sectional final, where the Tigers won over Plainfield Central 27-8 to advance to state at Villa Park Willowbrook High, where the Tigers lost to Chicago Perspectives/Leadership Charter 14-13

For the season, Werden played a key role on the Tigers' offense.

In an interview conducted following the Tigers win over the Indians to advance to the last 16, Werden was very happy about the outcome of the game, and helping the team to advance.

Werden said: "I'm proud of my team, I'm proud of my teammates, I'm proud of everyone here right now. It's a good feeling for all of us."

She also gave much credit to Mascoutah, who went on a big run, upsetting second-seeded East St. Louis to win the regional and advance to the sectional, losing to Edwardsville, but giving a very good accounting of themselves during their run.

And at the time, advancing to one win away from the state finals for a first-year program was a great accomplishment for Edwardsville, as well.

"It's a big feeling," Werden said. "Again, the inaugural season is really huge for all of us. Everyone's still learning; this is a big step for everybody in this sport. So, it's a really huge feeling, yes."

Werden was also proud of her role in helping to establish girls' flag football as a new fixture in the Tigers' overall athletic program.

"Being pioneers has been a term that's been thrown left and right this year," Werden said."I don't feel like much of a pioneer; I'm just a girl out here having fun. I was glad to be there."
