BOYS BASKETBALL

GRANITE CITY 49, UNION, MO. 45: At the Norm Stewart Shootout at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, three players finished in double figures as Granite took the win over Union.

Antonio Dean III led the Warriors with 16 points, and was named the game's MVP, while Javier Cass added 12 points, and Tyler Moore hit for 10 points.

Granite is now 4-2, while the Wildcats go to 3-2.

CENTRALIA 70, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 41: Centralia jumped out to a big lead and held it throughout in taking a win over Althoff at Glenn Schott Center.

Luke Smith led the Crusaders with 14 points, while Kyle Johnson added nine points.

The Orphans are now 5-0, while Althoff is now 2-3.

COLUMBIA 68, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 18: Columbia held EAWR to single digits in each quarter, leading 49-9 at halftime in taking a home win over the Oilers.

Brady Landgraf led the Eagles with 21 points, while Eddie Smajic hit for 18 points, and Kyle Chubb added 11 points.

Columbia is now 2-2, while EAWR goes to 1-1.

O'FALLON 56, BELLEVILLE EAST 54 (OT): O'Fallon came back from a 32-20 halftime deficit to tie the game 48-48 at the end of regulation, then outscored East 8-6 to take the Southwestern Conference win at East.

Ben Akoro led the Panthers with 22 points, while Lawson Bynum added 20 points. Troy Alexander scored 18 points for the Lancers, while Demarion Halverson came up with nine points.

O'Fallon is now 1-5, while East goes to 4-2.

ROXANA 58, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 34: Roxana jumped out to a 31-16 halftime lead in defeating Southwestern at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.

Sean Maberry once again led the Shells, this time with 22 points while Aiden Stemm added 21 points. John Kunz had 12 points for the Piasa Birds, while Connor Wood had seven and Cason Robinson 6.

Roxana is now 6-1, while the Piasa Birds are now 0-4.

MASCOUTAH 62, HIGHLAND 50: In a Mississippi Valley Conference opener at Highland's gym, Mascoutah took the win over the Bulldogs.

Austin Bramwell led the Indians with 17 points, with Brayden Watson adding on 15 points.

Mascoutah is now 2-2, while Highland goes to 1-4.

WHITE HALL NORTH GREENE 65. BEARDSTOWN 44: North Greene led at halftime 35-20 in going on to a home win over Beardstown.

Porter Dossett led the Spartans with 14 points, while Jase Goben came up with 13 points.

North Greene is now 1-2, while the Tigers slip to 0-3.

CARLINVILLE 59, GREENFIELD NORTHWESTERN 46: Carlinville built a 25-23 lead at halftime, then outscored Greenfield in the second half 36-21 to take a win on the road.

Sawyer Smith scored 19 points for the Cavaliers, while Tate Duckles added 12 points.

Carlinville is now 2-1, with the Tigers going to 1-1.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 48, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 44: McGivney pulled out a very close win over Metro-East in a Gateway Metro Conference opener at the Griffins Lair.

Owen Kolesa once again led the Griffins, scoring 14 points, while Chase Jansen added 12 points, and Carson Barone hit for 11 points.

In other games played on Friday, at a tournament in Valley Park, Mo., Valmeyer took a 65-25 win over Veritas Christian of O'Fallon, Mo., New Athens defeated Lebanon 75-44, East St. Louis came from behind to defeat Edwardsville 68-60, Marion won a South Seven Conference game over Cahokia 71-64, and Triad won over Waterloo 55-36 in a Mississippi Valley Conference opener.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ALTON 55, GRANITE CITY 26: Alton took an 18-2 lead at quarter time, extended it to 40-14 at halftime in going on to take the win over Granite at the Redbirds Nest.

Tyhlee Simms led the Warriors with 11 points, while Jailynn Rae Woods added eight points.

The Redbirds are now 5-1, while Granite goes to 3-2.

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 52, GATEWAY LEGACY CHRISTIAN 17: Marquette led at halftime 28-10, and held Gateway Legacy of Florissant, Mo. to single digits in each quarter in seeing off the Lions at Marquette Family Arena.

Allie Weiner led the Explorers with 10 points, with Maggie Pruetzel coming up with nine points.

Marquette is now 3-2, while Gateway Legacy drops to 0-4.

HIGHLAND 61, MASCOUTAH 31: Three players scored in double figures in Highland's MVC opening win over Mascoutah at home.

Jordan Bircher led the Bulldogs with 19 points, with Sophie Schroeder hitting for 14 points, and Ari Nanne scoring 11 points.

Highland goes to 4-3, while the Indians are now 3-2.

TRIAD 51, WATERLOO 42: In another MVC opener at Rich Mason Gym, Triad rallied from a 16-7 first-quarter deficit to outscore Waterloo 44-26 the rest of the way to take the win.

Addy Gentemann led the Knights with 13 points, while Erica Boyce added eight points.

Triad is now 5-2, while the Bulldogs go to 3-3.

BEARDSTOWN 40, WHITE HALL NORTH GREENE 34: Beardstown trailed North Greene 8-3 after the first quarter, and 16-12 at halftime, but rallied back to defeat the Spartans.

Layna Bushnell led North Greene with 12 points, while Ella Ford added 10 points.

The Tigers are now 6-2, while the Spartans go to 2-3.

In another game played on Friday, Civic Memorial went to 6-0 on the season with a 55-22 win over Jersey.

WRESTLING

In meets held under the spotlight at Warren "Babe" Stahlhut Arena at the Jon Davis Wrestling Center, the Edwardsville boys team won all but one of the bouts in taking a dominant 70-3 win over O'Fallon, while the Tigers' girls team took a 59-21 win over Wentzville, Mo., North Point.

ROXANA 60. MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN 41: Roxana raced out to a 23-2 first-quarter lead, then led at halftime 35-13 in taking a win at Maryville's gym.

Sean Maberry led he way for the Shells with 27 points, while Cohen Dugan added 10 points.

Roxana goes to 5-1, while the Lions are now 3-2.

In the only other boys game played on Thursday, Granite City defeated Metro-East Lutheran 58-39.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 49, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 42: In a Gateway Metro Conference opener at the Griffins Lair, McGivney held a 23-15 halftime lead and went on to take the win over visiting Althoff.

Layla Tobin led the Griffins with nine points, while Elle Willenborg came with eight points.

McGivney goes to 4-1, while the Crusaders are now 2-3.

COLUMBIA 61, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 37: Columbia rallied from a 17-14 first quarter deficit to outscore EAWR the rest of the way 47-20 to take the win at EAWR Memorial Gym.

Riley Bahr led the Eagles with 15 points, while Hope Schwartz had 11 points.

Columbia is now 3-2, while the Oilers fall to 2-3.

FREEBURG 49. ROXANA 39: Freeburg led all the way, holding advantages of 9-7, 24-11, and 30-26 after the first three quarters in taking a win over Roxana at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.

Leah Newton led the Shells with 12, points, and Ava Cherry added nine points.

The Midgets are now 4-2, while Roxana is now 2-3.

In other games played on Thursday, Alton won over visiting Collinsville 70-25, Marissa-Coulterville defeated Dupo 59-22, it was Breese Central winning over Salem 59-23, Okawville won at Red Bud 49-40, and Belleville East defeated O'Fallon on the road 54-47.

TUESDAY'S RESULTS

AUBURN 47, CARLINVILLE 40: Auburn held off Carlinville in a game played Tuesday at the Carlinville Big House.

Tate Duckles led the Cavaliers with 13 points, while Sawyer Smith came up with 11 points.

The Trojans are now 2-2, while Carlinville goes to 1-1.

MASCOUTAH 66, ST. LOUIS PRIORY CATHOLIC 45: Mascoutah outscored Priory in the first half 28-12 in coasting to a win at home.

Brayden Watson led the Indians with 22 points, with Micah Griffo adding 14 points.

Mascoutah is now 1-2, while the Ravens open up the season 0-1.

COLLINSVILLE 52, ROCHESTER 38: Collinsville led at Rochester 23-12 at halftime, then led after the third quarter 44-25 in going on to the road win.

Both Jace Wilkinson and Jordan Taylor led the Kahoks with 16 points each, while both DeAndre Brown and Camauri Mayes had seven points apiece.

Collinsville is now 2-1, while the Rockets go to 0-2.

BREESE MATER DEI CATHOLIC 74, BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 47: Mater Dei led Althoff at halftime 38-18 in going on to a win at home over Althoff.

Luke Smith led the Crusaders with 11 points, while Logan Luchtefeld added 10 points.

The Knights are now 1-3, while Althoff is now 2-2.

STAUNTON 59. CIVIC MEMORIAL 35: Staunton rallied from a 24-22 halftime deficit and outscored CM in the second half 37-11 to take the win.

Tanner Hokamp led the Eagles with nine points, while both Riley Lamb and Lukas Zangori had eight points each.

The Bulldogs are now 3-1, while CM goes to 1-3.

NEW ATHENS 71, FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 59: New Athens led McGivney at the half 31-18, and held off a big Griffin second-half rally to defeat McGivney at home.

Owen Kolesa led McGivney with 16 points, while Chase Jensen scored 12 points.

The Yellowjackets are now 3-1, while the Griffins slip to 4-1.

In other games played on Tuesday, Cahokia won over Highland 59-53, Roxana defeated Marquette Catholic 51-42, Edwardsville got a three from Brady Niemi with 30 seconds left to defeat Springfield 41-39, Carlyle won over Flora 55-28, Trenton Wesclin took a 64-49 win over Waterloo, Jersey nipped Freeburg 50-49, and Granite City nipped O'Fallon 59-56.

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS

In Wednesday's games, Roxana got past Carbondale 58-49, Waterloo Gibault Catholic won over Red Bud 67-58, Woodlawn won over Okawville 59-49, Carlyle defeated Pinckneyville 66-64, and Valmeyer won over St. Louis Bishop DuBourg Catholic 62-42.

TUESDAY'S RESULTS

CIVIC MEMORIAL 61, TAYLORVILLE 38: CM jumped out to a 41-21 halftime lead and coasted to the win at Taylorville.

Marley Ogden led the Eagles with 19 points, while both Marlee Durbin and Isabelle Edwards both scored 11 points each.

CM is now 5-0, while the Tornadoes are now 3-2.

GRANITE CITY 49, CAHOKIA 19: Granite City went out to a 22-2 first-quarter lead, went ahead at the half 29-2, and went on to win over Cahokia at Granite City Memorial Gym.

Tyhlee Simms led the Warriors with 17 points, while Taliyah Sykes added 15 points.

Granite is now 3-1. while the Comanches are 0-5.

BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 56, BELLEVILLE WEST 30: Althoff took a 15-10 first-quarter lead, then outscored West 43-20 the rest of the way to take the win at Glenn Schott Center.

Gabby Dalke led the Crusaders with 15 points, while both Reece Distler and Riley Fairbairn added 10 points each. GaKornia Green led the Maroons with 14 points, with both Josie Coughlin and A'aliyah Paulette scoring six points each.

In other games played on Tuesday, Waterloo Gibault Catholic won over Chester 49-43, Okawville defeated Woodlawn 56-47. Waterloo defeated Red Bud 30-17, Red Bud got past Dupo 36-32, Triad won over Jersey 65-49, and Breese Central won over Freeburg 46-23.
