ILLINOIS COLLEGE SHOWCASE

CARLINVILLE 51, WEST CENTRAL 37

Triston Thompson tossed in 18 points to pace Carlinville to a 51-37 win over West Central.

Sawyer Smith had 13 points and 6 rebounds, and Tate Duckels had 9 rebounds and 4 assists with 10 points for Carlinville.

Carlinville is 6-2, West Central is 6-4.

MT. VERNON 54, COLLINSVILLE 40: Mt. Vernon led all the way through, taking a 32-21 lead at halftime, and went on to win over visiting Collinsville.

Jace Wilkinson led the Kahoks with 16 points, while CaMauri Mayes came up with eight points.

The Rams are now 6-1, while Collinsville drops to 5-6.

In other games played on Monday, at Illinois College in Decatur, Rock Island nipped Alton 68-65, Triad blew open the game in the second half in going on to a 54-36 win at Mascoutah, and Marissa-Coulterville defeated Maryville Christian 66-50.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

JERSEY 51, WATERLOO 47

Meredith Gray poured in 19 points to pace Jersey to a 51-47 win over Waterloo on Monday night.

Cali Breden and Makenna Brunaugh had 11 and 9 points, respectively, and Anna Kribs had 7 points in the top-notch performance by the Panthers.

BREESE MATER DEI CATHOLIC 69, FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 57: Mater Dei took a 17-10 lead after the first quarter, McGivney rallied to tie the game at halftime 28-28, and led at three-quarter time 47-46. The Knights rallied in the final quarter to outscore the Griffins in the final term 23-10 to take the win at the Griffins Lair.

Elle Willenborg led McGivney with 19 points, while Zoe Oller was right behind with 18 points.

Mater Dei is now 7-3. while the Griffins go to 9-3.

Riley Pohlman had 7 points, while Layla Longnecker and Stella Gress had 3 points each.

ROXANA 44, LITCHFIELD 32: Roxana held a 17-12 halftime lead and went on to take the win over Litchfield at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.

Ava Cherry led the Shells with 13 points, while Daisy Daugherty added 12 points.

Roxana is now 5-6. while the Purple Panthers slip to 6-9.

FREEBURG 60, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 29

The Oilers' KayLynn Buttry led all scorers with 25-point outburst in the game against Freeburg.

Other Oilers scorers were Averi Gillam with 3 points and Maddie Stone with a point.

Freeburg led by Whitworth's 16.

In other games on the Monday schedule, Collinsville won at Sparta 42-32, and Marissa-Coulterville got past Steeleville 54-26.


SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

BOYS BASKETBALL

EAST ST. LOUIS 78. 21ST CENTURY CHARTER (GARY, IND.) 63: At the Midwest Shootout at St. Louis Community College-Meremac in Kirkwood, Mo., East Side ran away with the win over 21st Century Charter.

Jamison White led the way for the Flyers with 20 points, while Philip Jones scored 15 points, and Alex Johnson hit for 14 points.

East Side goes to 7-1, while the Cougars are now 4-3

COLLINSVILLE 53, BARTONVILLE LIMESTONE 38: Collinsville first-year head coach Hank Matthews won family Holiday bragging rights over his father, Eddie, an assistant coach for Limestone, and long-time Peoria-area head coach, as the Kahoks won at the SWIC Shootout in Belleville.

Jace Wilkinson led Collinsville with 17 points, while JuPaul Hudson added 13 points.

The Kahoks are now 5-5, while the Rockets fall to 2-7.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 46. WATERLOO GIBAULT CATHOLIC 41: McGivney went into its Holiday tournament with an important win on the road at Gibault.

Chase Jansen led the Griffins with 14 points, while Owen Kolesa hit for 12 points, and Carson Barone added 11 points.

McGivney is now 9=3, while the Hawks go to 3-6.

In other games played on Saturday, at the Midwest Shootout, St. Louis U. High won over Breese Mater Dei Catholic 61-54, at the SWIC Shootout, Granite City won over Pinckneyville 50-42, at a Shootout in Greenville, Teutopolis edged Triad 42-38, and Salem won at East Alton-Wood River 54-28. Also at the SWIC Shootout, Belleville West won over Pattonville of Maryland Heights, Mo., 57-46, and Herrin stopped Freeburg 75-58.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ST. LOUIS CARDINAL RITTER COLLEGE PREP CATHOLIC 68, EDWARDSVILLE 38: In the opening round of the 51st Visitation Christmas Tournament in Town and Country, Mo., Cardinal Ritter pulled away in the second half to take the win over Edwardsville.

Journey Anderson and Mia Semeth led the Tigers with nine points each.

The Lions are now 5-1, while Edwardsville goes to 4-6.

ST. LOUIS LIFT FOR LIFE ACADEMY 57, HIGHLAND 17: Also at the Viz Christmas Tournament, Lift For Life turned a close 12-10 first-quarter lead into a rout, outscoring Highland 37-7 the rest of the way to advance to the quarterfinals.

Jordan Bircher led the Bulldogs with 10 points, while Chloe Gould added three points.

The Hawks are now 2-2, while Highland drops to 8-6.

GRANITE CITY 43, WATERLOO GIBAULT CATHOLIC 40: In the third-place game of the Waterloo Gibault Catholic Candy Cane Classic, Granite City came from behind to edge out the host Hawks.

Malone Grady led the Warriors with 15 points, while both Tyhree Simms and Taliyah Sykes each had 10 points.

Granite is now 7-3, while Gibault is 7-6.

COLUMBIA 51, MEHLVILLE, MO. 35: In the final of the Gibault Candy Cane Classic, Columbia led at the half 31-17 in going on to take the tournament title over Mehlville of south St. Louis County.

Ava Mathews led the Eagles with 16 points, while Addison Dewilde had 12 points, and Kinley Jany added 11 points.

Columbia is now 7-6, while the Panthers go to 5-3.

In other games played on Saturday, Carlyle won over Flora 59-28, Carbondale defeated Cahokia 85-8, at Viz, Belleville East went to 10-0 with a 57-28 win over Parkway West, in the seventh place game of the Waterloo Gibault Catholic Candy Can Classic, Metro-East Lutheran edged Riverview Gardens 38-37, Red Bud edged New Athens for fifth place 42-36, and in a regular season game, STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley in north St. Louis County won over East St. Louis 71-22.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP

BOYS BASKETBALL

PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 42, GREENVILLE 33: In a SCC game, Southwestern led Greenville at halftime 24-12, the Comets came to within 42-33 after three quarters, and in a very unusual fourth quarter, neither team scored as the Piasa Birds won at home.

Cason Robinson led Southwestern with 14 points, while both Trenton Brackett and Carter Watson both had seven points apiece.

The Birds are now 2-8 while the Comets go to 5-6.

BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 55, MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN 31: Althoff went out to a 38-14 halftime lead and went on to the Gateway Metro Conference road win at Maryville.

Steven Brown led the Crusaders with 14 points, while Luke Smith came up with 10 points.

Althoff is now 4-5, while the Lions go to 5-4.

ROXANA 74, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 52: Roxana took a 40-27 lead at halftime and went on to win their rivalry game over EAWR in the Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.

Cohen Dugan was the Shells' top scorer with 20 points, while Aiden Stemm came up with 17 points, Sean Maberry had 16 points, and Keelan Crawford scored 11 points.

Roxana is now 9-2, while the Oilers go to 2-5.

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 48, METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 35: Marquette held off a spirited charge by Metro-East to win the GMC game at Marquette Family Arena.

Chase Jones led the Explorers with 18 points, while Cam Golike added 11 points. Kaleb Turney led the Knights with 10 points, while Brady Bishop added nine points.

Marquette is now 8-3, while Metro-East goes to 2-7.

COLUMBIA 52, BREESE CENTRAL 44: Columbia outscored Central in the second half 34-30 and took the win at home over Central.

Brady Landgraf led the Eagles with 19 points, with Kyle Chudd scoring 12 points, and Eddie Smajic adding on 11 points.

Columbia is now 6-2, while the Cougars go to 5-4.

EAST ST. LOUIS 77. BELLEVILLE EAST 42: East St. Louis raced out to a 47-27 halftime lead in going on to the Southwestern Conference win over East at home.

Terri'yon Webster led the Flyers with 25 points, while Jamison White had 20 points, and Alex Johnson scored 18 points. James Johnson led the Lancers with 14 points, while Jalen Coleman had 11 points.

FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 44, CENTRALIA CHRIST OUT ROCK LUTHERAN 38: In a Gateway Metro Conference game, McGivney continued its hot start by holding off COR at the Griffins Lair.

Both Chase Jansen and Owen Kolesa led the Griffins with 14 points each, while Carson Barone added eight points.

McGivney is now 8-3, while the Silver Stallions drop to 2-6.

MT.VERNON 62, O'FALLON 53: Mt. Vernon took the home win in a non-conference tilt with O'Fallon.

Jayden Dancy led the Panthers with 18 points, while Ben Akono had 15 points, and Lawson Bynum added 12 points.

The Rams are now 5-1, while O'Fallon goes to 2-9.

CARLINVILLE 56. PANA 43: Carlinville rallied from a third-quarter 33-30 deficit to blitz Pana, outscoring the Panthers in the fourth quarter 28-10 to take the South Central Conference game over Pana at the Carlinville Big House.

Sawyer Smith led the Cavaliers with 26 points, while Tate Duckles added 12 points, and Michael Kraganich hit for 10 points.

Carlinville is now 5-2, while Pana drops to 3-3.

In other games on the Friday slate, Salem won over Freeburg 52-38, Marissa-Coulterville romped on Lebanon 75-37, Mascoutah topped Jersey 47-35. Breese Mater Dei Catholic won over Waterloo Gibault Catholic 67-41, Edwardsville nipped Collinsville 43-41, Alton won at home over Belleville West 64-49. Civic Memorial got past Waterloo 56-50. Sparta won at Okawville 55-37, Granite City won over St. Louis KIPP Academy 70-34, New Athens won at Dupo 72-42, Triad won its rivalry game over Highland 39-35, Trenton Wesclin won over visiting Carlyle 49-35, Hardin Calhoun won over Greenfield Northwestern 64-26. and Concord Triopia got past Carrollton 43-38.

HIGHLAND 54, TRIAD 24: In a Mississippi Valley Conference rivalry game, Highland led all the way in taking the win over Triad at Highland's gym.

Juliette Duff led the Knights with seven points, while Kenzie Becker came up with six points.

The Bulldogs are now 8-6, while Triad goes to 7-4.

ROXANA 51, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 19: Roxana led all the way through, holding a 32-6 halftime advantage in going on the rivalry win over EAWR at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.

Daisy Daugherty led the Shells with 17 points, while Ava Cherry had 13 points, and Leah Newton added 11 points. The top scorer for the Oilers was Kaylynn Buttry, with 12 points, while Madelyn Stone had three points.

Roxana is now 4-6, while EAWR falls to 2-9.

WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 69. CARLINVILLE 55: West Central rallied from a 32-28 halftime deficit to outscore Carlinville in the second half 41-33 to win on the road at the Carlinville Big House.

Kaitlyn Reels again led the Cavaliers, scoring 21 points, while Ruthie Reels added 16 points.

The Cougars are now 7-3, while Carlinville goes to 4-9.

In other games played on Friday, Marissa-Coulterville defeated Campbell Hill Trico 62-50, and Civic Memorial won at Waterloo 61-32.
