COLLINSVILLE — Mount Vernon rallied from a 20-point deficit to edge Belleville East 56-55 Sunday at the Collinsville Holiday Classic.

Belleville East dominated early, jumping to a 23-7 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 36-22 by halftime. Mount Vernon began its comeback in the third quarter, limiting Belleville East to five points while scoring 17, closing the gap to 41-39 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Mount Vernon outpaced Belleville East 17-14. The game came down to a final shot by Belleville East, which missed, securing the narrow victory for Mount Vernon.
Cale Maurer led Mount Vernon with 22 points, supported by David Barnes’s 13 and Lucas Shelby Jr.’s 12.
Belleville East’s top scorers were Troy Alexander with 18 points and Jalen Coleman with 12.
