EDWARDSVILLE - Lily Stone led the way for Edwardsville with a two-hit, three RBI day at the plate, while Makaela Pippins went all the way inside the circle, fanning two, as the Tigers held off a seventh-inning rally to defeat Red Bud 5-4 in a softball game played Saturday morning at the Edwardsville District 7 sports complex.

The Tigers bounced back from a heartbreaking 11-10 loss at Breese Central on Friday to raise their record to 4-5 on the season.

Edwardsville took an early lead in the opening inning, starting with a lead-off hit by Bryar Ellinger and a walk to Amelia Wilfong, with both advancing on a sacrifice by Brooke Burris. Stone's sacrifice fly to center scored Ellinger to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Musketeers drew level in the third, when Addy Duncan led off with a base hit, went to second on a fly out, and third on a ground out, and scored on Lilly Minemann's RBI single to center to tie the game 1-1.

Stone gave the Tigers the lead back on a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, clearing over the fence in left and scoring Wilfong, who had reached on an error, ahead of her to make it 3-1. Red Bud got one of the runs back in the fourth. on a lead-off single by Lilly Meyer and a double by Olivia Schmidt that scored Meyer and cut the Edwardsville lead to 3-2.

Remi Werden's RBI double in the fourth scored Sophie Antonini, and a RBI single by Wilfong chased home Werden to make it 5-3, but in the seventh, an RBI single by Julia Whelen scored Duncan and made it 5-4 for Edwardsville, but Pippins shut the door on the Musketeers as the Tigers held on to win.

Stone had the big day at the plate for the Tigers, with her two hits and three RBIs, while Ellinger had two hits, Wilfong came up with a hit and RBI, and both Antonini and Maksine Staub also had hits. Pippins went all the way inside the circle to gain the win, allowing four runs, one earned, on 11 hits, walking none and striking out two.

Red Bud is now 5-1, while the Tigers go to 4-5, and host Gillespie on Monday afternoon, then are at Piasa Southwestern Wednesday, and open up Southwestern Conference play Thursday at home against Belleville West, all games starting at 4:30 p.m.
