DUPO - East Alton-Wood River edged Dupo 40-35 in the first round of the Cat Classic girls basketball tournament on Monday night, Nov. 17, 2025.

The Oilers held a 7-5 lead after the first quarter, but Dupo tied the game at 12-12 by halftime.

East Alton-Wood River then took a narrow 27-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, the Oilers outscored Dupo 13-9 to secure the victory.

Key contributors for East Alton-Wood River included Kaylynn Buttry, who scored 11 points, and Averi Gilliam, who added 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Addison Mitchell had a spectacular game for Dupo with 17 points and 7 rebounds. DeMiyah Chairs had 4 points and also had a big game on the boards with 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Roberts had 5 points, Kylie Kloess had 5 points and 7 rebounds, and Keara Prater had 4 points.

Hailey Handler made back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter, providing the Oilers with crucial breathing room down the stretch.

The Oilers stand 1-0 after the win; Dupo 0-1.
