ALTON - Marquette Catholic held a state-finals send-off Wednesday morning, May 27, 2026, for students Jack Beaber and Hubert Allen as they prepared to compete this week in state events representing the school.

As part of the school’s tradition, both athletes received a rosary and a blessing and were sent off with the singing of the fight song.

Allen qualified for the state boys' tennis tournament in singles. Beaber qualified for the state boys' track and field meet in both shot put and discus.

Beaber said he is balancing pressure with optimism heading into the competition.

“I feel pressure, but I am feeling good. I think I can do better this year. I'm glad I qualified for shot put and hope to give it my best,” Jack said. “I love the support.”

Hubert Allen also spoke about the turnout and encouragement surrounding the send-off.

“I love to see all the support. It means a lot. Jack is going to do great,” Hubert Allen said. “I love the support of the Marquette family.”

Allen added, “I love that everyone is supporting me from back home with the send-off; it is great.”

The school said the send-off was held to support Allen and Beaber as they compete this week and represent Marquette Catholic.
