GRANITE CITY – Three Granite City Community Unit School District #9 students were recognized by Madison County Green Schools Programs as top-three finishers in the 2026 Clean Air Bookmark Contest.

Students were invited to design a bookmark that demonstrates the importance of clean air and its impact on living things – people, plants, or animals – in Madison County.

2nd-3rd Grade: Say NO to Air Pollution

Mason Paterson – 1st Place, Wilson Elementary School

Prize: Kindle Paperwhite, $25 Visa Gift Card, 100 printed bookmarks to be distributed at school

4th-5th Grade: Stay Air Aware!

Daniela Barreno – 2nd Place, Prather Elementary School

Prize: $25 Visa Gift Card

6th-8th Grade: The Best Solution? Less Air Pollution!

Brianna Galvan – 3rd Place, Wilson Elementary School

Prize: $20 Visa Gift Card

Each student will be recognized at the Tuesday, April 28 GCSD9 Board of Education meeting.
