CAHOKIA HEIGHTS — A Cahokia Heights Fire Department apparatus rolled over Saturday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2026, after it was struck in a three-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 3 while responding to another crash, injuring one firefighter and sending all parties involved to area hospitals, the department said.

The crash occurred at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, as the fire apparatus was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 3. Based on preliminary information, two vehicles traveling northbound were involved in a collision, causing both vehicles to cross into the southbound lanes of traffic, where they struck the responding fire apparatus.

The impact caused the fire apparatus to roll over, and one firefighter sustained injuries. All parties involved were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. The Cahokia Heights Fire Department said that because the investigation is ongoing, it will not speculate regarding the circumstances or contributing factors surrounding the crash.

Any additional information regarding the investigation will be handled by the appropriate investigating agency, the department said.

The Cahokia Heights Fire Department thanked law enforcement, fire and EMS and other emergency personnel who responded to the scene and assisted those injured.

“Our thoughts remain with our injured firefighter and all individuals involved in this incident,” the Cahokia Heights Fire Department said.
