
COLUMBIA — The Columbia girls basketball team secured a 57-51 victory over Carlyle on Monday night, Nov. 17, 2025, in the Columbia Tournament despite limited practice time, drawing on the talents of several players fresh off their IHSA 2A State Girls Volleyball Tournament championship win over the weekend.
The Eagles, who fell to the Indians 63-60 in their previous meeting in November 2024, faced a tough Carlyle squad but managed to come out on top in the latest matchup.

Ava Matthews, known for her volleyball prowess, led Columbia with an overpowering 19 points and made the transition in the two sports look easy. Kinley Jany, another standout volleyball player, contributed 15 points to propel the Columbia effort.
Addison DeWilde added 9 points, while Riley Bahr chipped in 8 points for the Eagles.
Columbia’s ability to perform well in basketball shortly after their volleyball championship highlights the versatility and athleticism of the players and is an important transition to basketball for the winter season.
