Lucas Abbott.EDWARDSVILLE — Lucas Abbott, a junior boys' cross country runner at Metro East Lutheran High School, concluded his 2025 season with a strong performance at the state meet in Peoria, finishing 54th in Class 1A with a time of 15 minutes, 36 seconds.

Abbott’s season highlights include winning first place at the Trenton Wesclin Regional with a personal best time of 15:32.4. He also placed fourth at the Trenton Wesclin Sectional, recording a time of 15:34.0.

Kevin Reiseck, head coach of the Metro East Lutheran boys cross country team, praised Abbott’s progress this season. “Lucas Abbott was the regional champion, and it was really exciting for him. He had a plan going into the race, and he executed it perfectly and ended up great for him,” Reiseck said.

He added that Abbott “did really well, came into his own quite a bit this season, working so hard over the summer. In the last two meets of the season, he really stood out.”

Abbott was recently honored as the Alton Roadrunners Club Male Runner of the Year for Metro East Lutheran High School.
