BELLEVILLE — A tightly contested pole vault competition highlighted the Lady Maroons Invite, with three area athletes finishing among the top six as the girls' outdoor track and field season gets underway.

Civic Memorial’s Kaylee Shields, Edwardsville’s Jaylin Bell, and Collinsville’s Londyn Long placed in the top six in the pole vault at the meet in Belleville. Shields cleared 3.20 meters (10 feet, 6 inches), Bell cleared 2.90 meters (9-6 2.5), and Long cleared 2.59 meters (8-6).

Claudia Ifft of Bloomington won the pole vault event after clearing 3.66 meters (12-0). Karigan Littlejohn of Waterloo cleared 3.35 meters (10-11.75). Ava Bauman of Bloomington was fourth at 2.90 meters (9-6 2.5).

The six girls are expected to be competitive as the girls' outdoor track and field season gets underway.
