Led by head coach Jacob Simmons, Marquette’s state lineup and postseason roster included Pruetzel, seniors Lexi Taylor and Kaylee Piar, and juniors Covelynn Geisler, Olivia Cummings and Amelia Hoppe. Simmons led the team with assistant coach Josh Taylor.
Coach Simmons said the Explorers reached the state tournament following a sectional finish that required a tiebreaker.
“The team ended with a 5th place finish in the state final, and through three long days of golf, the girls stayed with it,” Simmons said in comments provided Oct. 10.
Quincy Notre Dame won the team championship with a 641 total, finishing 65 over par after rounds of 324 and 317. Breese Mater Dei placed second and Metamora third, both totaling 674. Byron finished fourth at 681.
Downs Tri-Valley placed sixth at 693, followed by Bloomington Central Catholic at 697 and Okawville at 709.
“Playing against the top teams in the state, let alone just being there in the first place after a crazy sectional finish and tiebreaker just to get here, the girls know it was a great way to finish the season, especially for our two seniors, and Coach Taylor and I are extremely proud of their achievements this season and their state finish!” Simmons said.
Simmons also thanked the players’ parents for their support throughout the season.
