WOOD RIVER - Wood River residents will have a chance to meet local first responders and take part in family activities during National Night Out from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at 550 East Madison in Wood River.
The event will include police and emergency vehicle displays, face painting, free food and drinks, and game activities for all ages.

“Bring the whole family for a night of free fun, food, and community spirit,” Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells said. “This is a great opportunity to meet your local first responders, explore emergency vehicles up close, and celebrate community safety together. Let’s build a safer, stronger Wood River - together.”
Wells said the event is a key part of the department’s community outreach efforts.
“National Night Out is one of the most important community events we participate in each year,” Wells said. “It gives our officers the opportunity to meet the people we serve outside of emergency situations and get to know them on a personal level.”
Wells said members of the Wood River Police Department view strong relationships between law enforcement and residents as central to public safety.
“When neighbors know their officers and officers know their community, it builds trust, improves communication, and works together to prevent crime,” Wells said.
He said the event is intended to bring together families, neighborhoods, businesses and first responders.
“National Night Out is about much more than police cars and demonstrations,” Wells said. “It’s about bringing families, neighborhoods, businesses, and first responders together to make Wood River a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Wells encouraged residents to attend, meet officers and ask questions.
“We appreciate the continued support of our community, and we remain committed to working together to keep Wood River a great place to call home,” he said.
