EDWARDSVILLE — Belleville West softball pitcher Kara Kramer said she is optimistic about a strong 2027 season after helping the Maroons show steady growth in 2026, when she contributed both in the circle and at the plate.

Kramer went 6-6 in 15 pitching appearances in 2026 for the Maroons with a 3.36 ERA and 104 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .323 with 21 hits, 15 RBIs and eight doubles.

Reflecting on last season, Kramer said the softball team’s effort stood out.

“Yes, our effort was very strong,” Kramer said of the past 2026 season. “We all gave 110 percent.”

Kramer said the Maroons’ goal was to develop together over the course of the season.

“Our goal was to grow as a team,” Kramer said, “and basically play as one.”

She also said Belleville West improved as the season progressed.

“We continued to grow throughout the season, and just became more bonded.”

Kramer said she hopes to have a strong season in 2027.

Among her pitches, Kramer said her rise ball is her best.

“It just has good break and spin,” Kramer said.
