WOOD RIVER - Ellie Beachum emerged as one of the top girls softball pitchers in the St. Louis region this past season, recording 225 strikeouts while also batting .390, according to East Alton-Wood River Athletic Director Mark Beatty.
Beachum, who plays at EAWR, is on track to become one of Illinois’ top girls softball pitchers in spring 2027, Beatty said. He said she stood out this past season for her focus on the field and her production in key outings, including multiple games with 10 or more strikeouts. She will also be one of the top girls volleyball players on the Oilers squad in the 2026 fall campaign.

Among her top performances was a no-hitter against Carlyle in which she struck out 15 batters.
Ellie is a Midwest Members Credit Union Female Athlete Of The Month For the Oilers.
“Ellie Beachum emerged as one of the St. Louis region's top girls softball pitchers this past season,” Beatty said, citing her 225 strikeouts and a .390 batting average.
Beatty said Beachum is “always extremely focused” on the softball field and centered on the game. He said he expects “continued remarkable things” from her in 2027 and 2028.
He also described Beachum as a standout beyond softball.
“She is also an outstanding girls volleyball player,” Beatty said, adding that she is “overall, an outstanding athlete.”
Beatty said Beachum is an honor student, a member of a student leadership group at the school and “a good friend to the other students.”
“She is just an outstanding human being” and has “such a bright future ahead,” Beatty said.
