MADISON COUNTY - Motorists traveling west on Interstate 270 in Madison County will face lane closures this weekend as the Illinois Department of Transportation begins road construction between Illinois 3 and the Mississippi River.

The department announced today that westbound I-270 traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, July 18, weather permitting. All westbound lanes are expected to reopen by 6 p.m. Sunday, July 19.

The closures will affect the stretch of westbound I-270 from Illinois 3 to the Mississippi River in Madison County.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure. Drivers also are urged to reduce speed, remain alert for changing conditions, obey construction signage and avoid using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
