Guest soprano Caitlin Towell is scheduled to appear. She is a high-honors graduate of the University of Illinois and Oklahoma City University, who is returning to the local ensemble where Edwardsville’s school music and theater programs first sparked her love of performing.
The Edwardsville Municipal Band is inviting the community to attend two free performances this week as part of Edwardsville’s weeklong 250th celebration.
The Thursday concert, billed as a program to “CELEBRATE THE SEMIQUINCENTENIAL,” will honor “our shared heritage and the enduring spirit of freedom through melodies that evoke pride, unity, and hope.”
Concessions for Thursday’s performance will still be available from the Edwardsville Catholic School Band program. Additional information said concessions for the Thursday concert will benefit the Edwardsville Catholic School Band Boosters.
The celebration will continue Saturday, July 4, when the band performs at 7:30 p.m. at the Edwardsville American Legion Post. Organizers said the patriotic concert will serve as the musical prelude to the city’s annual holiday fireworks display.
Both concerts are free and open to the public.
Event information said visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the music under the stars.
