ALTON - Recent Marquette Catholic graduate Cameron Golike, an “all-around athlete deluxe” for the Explorers, closed out his strong high school athletic career with a successful outdoor track and field season that included top finishes in the 100 and 200 meters, relay contributions and praise from his coach for his leadership and work ethic.

This was Cameron's first year out for track and field, and despite his inexperience, he shined and grew as the season wore on.

Golike, a Tucker’s Automotive Repair & Tire Male Athlete of the Month for Marquette Catholic, placed fifth in the 100 meters in 11.92 seconds and sixth in the 200 in 24.61 at the Gateway Metro Track and Field Championships on May 6, 2026, at Father McGivney Catholic. He also ran on the Explorers’ 4x100-meter relay team, which finished second at the meet.

Later in the season, Golike posted a personal-best 23.44 in the 200 meters for third place at the Dick Hamann Carrollton Invite. On May 20, 2026, he ran 11.81 in the 100 meters at the Triad Sectional, finishing 18th and breaking the 11.9-second mark. He also cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump at the Civic Memorial Outdoor Opener and took part in the Explorers’ 4x200 relay efforts.

Explorers Boys Track and Field Coach Billy Sprague said Golike established himself as the team’s top sprinter while also standing out for his approach as a teammate.

“He is a great athlete and gives 100 percent to everything he does," Coach Sprague said. "He is just a pinnacle of an ultimate athlete, amazing soccer player, amazing basketball player, and in the end an amazing sprinter. He established himself easily as No. 1 boys sprinter. All the coaching staff wished we had the kid all four years of his high school career. He is a great kid, a great leader and a great athlete to have."

Sprague said Golike’s development as a sprinter reflected both his athletic background and his effort throughout the season.

“I don’t think it surprised me what he did in the 2026 track and field season, knowing his background and knowing multi-sport athlete. He not only has talent, but his hard work shows in the results. He often stuck around and helped other teammates; he was a lead-by-example type of guy, never really got down on anyone, always looking for ways he could get better and building up the rest of sprinters around, first-in-last-out type of kids,” Sprague said.
