From 6–9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, community members can enjoy a “Rock the Block” performance by Schell in downtown Jerseyville under the water tower. The Independence Day fun starts with an ice cream social at 4 p.m. at the Jersey County Courthouse and concludes with fireworks at the Jersey County fairgrounds at 9:30 p.m. Schell is excited to be a part of the experience.
“I look forward, obviously, to seeing family, tons of family and lots of friends in the audience, and honestly getting back home,” she said. “My hometown is the reason why I started writing songs and playing music in the first place, so it’s always an inspiring place for me to go back and play for the people who inspired me to make music.”
Schell promises plenty of original songs as well as fun covers that will get people dancing. From The Grateful Dead to Aretha Franklin, the setlist is full of “all-American rock n roll” to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
“We’re going to be playing some songs that just feel very American when you get deep down to it. You couldn’t sing these songs anywhere else,” she said.
Jerseyville hosts four Rock the Block concerts every summer. These outdoor concerts feature local artists or Nashville artists with ties to Jerseyville, like Schell. The goal is to bring people together and encourage connection within the town while promoting local businesses.
This year marks Schell’s third year playing a Rock the Block concert. She noted that the Rock the Block initiative is a lot of fun and encourages more music and creation within the Riverbend region.
“They’ve been doing this for the past three or four years, and I feel like it’s really good for Jerseyville and it’s really good for music,” she said. “The atmosphere is very cozy and everybody’s bringing their own lawn chairs and their own coolers. It’s just sort of a hometown tailgating event.”
Schell compared the experience to the movie “The Sandlot,” adding that this is another reason why she loves her hometown and can’t wait to return to Jerseyville for the Rock the Block concert. She hopes many people come out for the ice cream social, the concert, and the fireworks.
“You’re going to be able to dance. Bring the kids,” she added. “It’s going to be a great night.”
