EDWARDSVILLE - Isiah Laux is one of the most important players on the Staunton High School boys basketball team and started well at the Edwardsville Live showcase event on Friday, June 26, 2026, by helping the Bulldogs win their first game, defeating Mary Institute-Country Day School of Ladue, Mo., 40-35.

Last season, as a junior, Laux led the Bulldogs with a 16.3-point-per-game scoring average and also averaged four rebounds per game, along with 2.7 assists per game, in helping Staunton to a 29-4 record, 9-0 to win the South Central Conference title, and an IHSA Class 2A regional championship before losing in the sectional semifinal to Rochester.
So far, the Bulldogs have done well in the summer campaign, and in a postgame interview, Laux talked about how well the Bulldogs have played and how hard they've worked during the campaign.
"We have been putting the work in," Laux said, "we've only had a few practices this year, but overall, we've only lost one game so far, in Wisconsin. And now, we're playing at Live, and we're 1-0."
The showcase is mainly designed for players to receive exposure to college coaches and recruiters, and it's something Laux is seeking and is very hopeful about.
"Hopefully, get some colleges looking at me, and stuff like that," Laux said. "Going to these Live events, like at Normal West and Edwardsville, and I'm playing AAU in the summer, too."
Getting exposure and helping the Bulldogs win are the two main goals he has for the weekend.
"That, and just winning," Laux said. "Just winning all the games."
He also feels that the summer season has gone well for the Bulldogs, too.
"We have done pretty well," Laux said. "We shoot a lot, we produce a lot, we've only had a few practices, but we've played around 30-something games, and we've only lost one so far. Pretty good."
The success Staunton is enjoying now will translate very well into success in the 2026-27 season for the Bulldogs.
"This means a lot," Laux said. "Playing big teams like this, especially in these live events, will help us in the postseason next year, and hopefully get us past sectionals, since we lost last year."
