JERSEYVILLE – Several classic cars and trucks were on display for Liberty Village residents and community members at the retirement community’s second annual car show on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Marketing Director Lorie Hunter with Liberty Village said the car show has grown since last year’s highly successful event. The annual event is held in collaboration with the White Hall Drag-O-Way car club.
“Last year we had one and it was a very big success,” Hunter said. “We had last year a total of 30 cars – this year, we have over 40.”
While the classic rides were clearly the stars of the show, she said the event offered even more to attendees. Food and refreshments were available under the shaded front entrance as staff welcomed visitors for an Open House.
Hunter said the sunny display of chrome and character is greatly appreciated by Liberty Village residents.
“One thing about this car show: they love it dearly,” she said of the residents. “Everybody just sits around and talks and talks about the old stories about their cars, so it just gives them a lot of interaction outside in this beautiful weather that we have today.”
Ronnie White, the proud owner of a black 1964 Ford Thunderbird with a custom gold-accented paint job, said it “took a lot of work” to complete the car’s roof and interior – and still takes significant effort to keep clean. Still, he said he enjoys bringing his Thunderbird to local car shows and bringing memories back to attendees.
Dale Walker, the 13-year owner of a 1937 Chevrolet Coupe, said he bought the car as a restoration project to work on after retirement. Before installing a Fatman chassis and all-aluminum Corvette LS3 engine, he said the car originally showed signs of being used to smuggle moonshine.
“It’s not about winning any awards or anything, it’s about the stories and the history of the cars,” Walker said. “This car used to be a moonshine car. When I bought this car, it had eight leaf springs on each side and a switch where you could shut off the brake lights and the tail lights, so when they were running from the cops, they could shut them off and they couldn’t see them.”
Hunter said that while the annual car show takes considerable effort to plan, she greatly appreciates the partnership with the White Hall Drag-O-Way car club as the event offers a great way for residents and car enthusiasts to connect.
“I love seeing our residents interact with each other and talk about their ‘good old days’ that they love so much, it’s close to their heart,” Hunter said. “It takes a lot of planning, but thank you to the guys in the club that [were] able to get all these together, and it turns out to be a beautiful day and a great show.”
