The fire prompted a response in the area of Highway 67 and Smitty Lane, with mutual aid provided by the Godfrey, QEM and Jerseyville fire departments. JCH EMS was on standby, and the JCSD assisted with traffic, the district said.

The department said firefighters encountered several challenges during the response.

Because of the location and limited space, crews set up portable ponds along U.S. 67 and pumped water back to the initial engine on scene.

One lane of Highway 67 was shut down during operations, according to the district.
