Turnbough said the fundraiser was created to help Colton as he faces the loss of his father and to ease immediate financial burdens while providing support for his future.
“On Sunday, June 14, 2026, our family lost Damon Bornes in a tragic car accident,” Turnbough said. “The loss has left a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him, but especially in the life of his son, Colton Michael Bornes.”
Damon Bornes died after his truck crashed on State Street in Alton.
Turnbough described Bornes as “many things to many people,” including “a son, a father, a friend, an uncle, a cousin, and the kind of person who could make friends anywhere he went.”
She said that “above all else, Damon was a devoted father.”
“As a father, his greatest pride and joy was his son, Colton,” Turnbough wrote. “Their bond went far beyond that of father and son. They were best friends, adventure partners, and each other’s biggest supporters. Damon and Colton were rarely far apart.”
She added that “anyone who knew Damon knew that his life revolved around Colton. Every decision he made, every plan he created, and every dream he chased included his son.”
Turnbough said the fundraiser “has been established to help support Colton as he navigates the unimaginable loss of his father.”
“Funds will help ease immediate financial burdens and provide support for Colton’s future as he adjusts to life without the man who loved him most,” she said.
Turnbough also thanked supporters for their help to date since the accident.
“On behalf of Colton and our entire family, thank you for the love, support, and kindness that have already been shown during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.
