Executive Director Cindy Cannon explained that the community, located in Bethalto, combines independent living with supportive services. She believes the “family” feel, shared by both residents and staff members, sets them apart as a home for older adults to feel comfortable, cared for, and supported as they age.

“Statistics tell us that older adults are lonely,” Cannon said. “What happens is they come in here and everyone is going through the very same thing. They find a lot of commonality with each other, and a lot of bonding and friendship is created. We keep them busy with tons of activities and home-cooked meals.”

The staff at Villa Rose hosts near-daily activities for residents to enjoy. The residents are encouraged to look out for each other and develop friendships.

Cannon noted that most of their residents are tired of taking care of a yard and cooking for themselves, and they want a calmer environment where they can relax and find companionship. Plus, there’s always a staff member on site, which provides peace of mind; someone is there if you need them.

“They’re just looking for easy living,” Cannon explained. “We offer them a lot of companionship within the community. It’s such a beautiful thing to see people make friendships with each other. They just kind of find this niche of family within the community. It makes it a lot easier when you eat a meal with your neighbors.”

Residents live in the Villa Rose apartments and can access services, like shower help or medication reminders, as needed. But residents only pay for the services they need, making Villa Rose an affordable alternative to other senior living communities.

Cannon shared that Villa Rose is “the best-kept secret in our area” because it’s affordable. A studio apartment starts at $1,750 a month and includes three home-cooked meals a day, water, trash, cable, internet, weekly housekeeping and linen services. Cannon is especially proud of their kitchen, with chefs who actually cook many of their meals from scratch.

This is possible because Villa Rose is family-owned, so there aren’t fees going to a corporation. Each resident is more than a number. Most of the staff members have been there for years and have developed personal relationships with the residents and their families.

“I’m super proud that I have a staff that has longevity,” Cannon said. “The main goal, when we look to hire people, is that they are going to care about the residents. The majority of the staff have been here for years, and that is hard to come by in this industry. I think part of it is because we have created this family atmosphere.”

Cannon encourages anyone who is interested in learning more to simply call Villa Rose at 618-377-3239. You can also visit their official website or their official Facebook page. She emphasized that they are happy to give no-pressure tours or answer any questions.

“We are a very unique facility to the community,” she added. “We all just work together to give the residents the best experience possible.”
