BLOOMINGTON, IL. - The O'Fallon Police Department said members of the department took part in the 2026 Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games at Bloomington-Normal, IL., where athletes, Unified partners, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from across the state gathered for a weekend centered on inclusion, determination, and achievement.

O'Fallon Police Chief Kirk Brueggeman and his Unified partner, Daniel Lourwood, won a gold medal in the inaugural Unified Cornhole competition. O'Fallon Police Captain Mojzis and his Unified partner, James Lourwood, finished fourth.

The O'Fallon Police Department also said Sgt. Nick Schmidt supported athletes throughout the weekend by handing out medals and helped make the event memorable for participants.

The O'Fallon Police also recognized the Parent Teacher Organization for Exceptional Children, Beverly Farm in Godfrey, and other local athletes from Special Olympics Illinois Region J.

“Their determination and enthusiasm embody the true spirit of Special Olympics and remind us that success is measured not only by medals, but by courage, perseverance, and friendship,” the police department said.
