At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at The Wedge in Alton, community members can learn more about how to prepare their estates. Curtis Stephens and Mark Goldenberg will lead the seminar and answer questions so people can get their affairs in order before a tragedy strikes.
“This event is for people if they care about protecting their family, the things they’ve worked hard for, looking out for the future while they’re here and gone, if you don’t want to burden your family with the complex decisions after you’re gone,” Stephens said. “This is for people who have a business, assets, property, all of those things. If you prefer an education, not a sales pitch, this is a good place to come, get some food, get your questions answered.”
The dinner seminar will bring together both Stephens’s expertise as a fiduciary and Goldenberg’s years of experience as a lawyer. The two will encourage attendees to “set the agenda” and come with questions so they can help people understand how to take those first steps to manage their estates.
Stephens explained that it’s rare to have multiple professionals in a room at once, which is why he wanted to host the seminar. His goal is to make it easier for people to implement the advice they receive and coordinate between professionals.
“We’ll have everybody in the room to give you an answer,” he said. “Every time you touch your investment, there’s a tax consequence. And we want to do that in the form of predictable and sustainable income that’s tax-efficient. That’s another plan. Then there’s life-planning. Care, dignity. Tragedy happens, but coordinating all of that, that’s where we bring in licensed professionals to help coordinate estate.”
In addition to the dinner seminar on June 17, Stephens Planning will host several other events this summer, including Community Fridays. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the last Friday of every month, community members can come to Stephens Planning to go over their finances.
Stephens believes this is especially helpful for people who have struggled to manage their finances in the past. He hopes the Community Fridays can encourage people to get the financial guidance they need to be successful.
“I don’t care if you’re a million dollars in debt. I don’t care if you’ve only got $10,000 that you’ve had stashed under your mattress. We don’t care. Come in,” he said. “If you know your baby’s ugly, we’ll help you the best we can. It’s not fun for me to call people’s babies ugly, or their situation. But you focus on what you can control and you move forward the best you can. So that’s one way that we try to give back and serve our community.”
Helping others is an important part of Stephens’s work. He previously worked as an EMT, and giving back to the community is still his priority. He wants to help people manage their finances and estates so they can have peace of mind and ensure they are taken care of.
“I’m called to make a difference, not a living,” he said. “You can’t stay in these spaces if you’re not genuine about helping people. That’s what it’s about. People can sniff it a mile away, how full of crap you are. You just focus on what you can control and helping people where they’re at.”
