EDWARDSVILLE - Grab the lawn chairs and a blanket, because this week’s municipal band concert is turning the local bandstand into a grand theater — with a playful, family-friendly twist.

On Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., City Park will come alive with the Edwardsville Municipal Band and a performance that highlights famous melodies we all know from movies, history, and modern pop culture.

The concert features "Nessun Dorma" from the opera Turandot, a beautiful melody that became a massive pop hit and a famous soccer anthem, alongside modern musical theater favorites like Miss Saigon, which retells a tragic, classic opera story during the final days of the Vietnam War through emotional songs like "Sun And Moon" and "The American Dream." Audiences will also recognize the thrilling and powerful "Ride of the Valkyries"—a piece famous for its frequent appearances in movies and commercials—as well as a sweeping mix of music from Andrew Lloyd Webber's timeless masterpiece, The Phantom of the Opera. Adding a playful touch to the concert, Animation offers a lively performance that sounds just like the soundtrack to a funny Saturday morning cartoon where a sneaky hunter chases a clever rabbit.

Admission is completely free. Concessions will support the League of Women Voters. Follow the Edwardsville Municipal Band on Facebook and Instagram for more information and updates.
