Started in “a modest house” on West Chestnut Street in Bloomington, the small team worked with adults who were struggling with substance use disorders. Soon, Chestnut grew to meet other community needs, with the first southern Illinois location opening in 1990.

“The organization was rooted in a simple yet powerful belief: that everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care, regardless of background or resources,” said Khristina Raglin, a spokesperson for Chestnut Health Systems. “What started as a single location expanded into a comprehensive system of behavioral health and human services designed to support those in need at every stage of care.”

Today, Chestnut offers primary and preventative care for all ages. Their dedicated team of providers helps patients manage their health and connect to the resources they need. They offer care to patients of all ages.

Chestnut’s behavioral health services range from crisis intervention to substance use treatment to counseling and psychiatry. With both residential and outpatient services available, Chestnut’s team can help you make the decision that best suits your needs.

The organization even offers dental care for adults and children alike in their central Illinois location. Check-ups and fillings/tooth removals are possible right alongside x-rays, fluoride treatments and other dental procedures.

Additionally, the organization offers supportive housing and applied behavioral research. They have developed specialized programs that aim to support prevention, education, recovery and community wellness. Chestnut’s patient-centered approach means every client receives the top-notch, comprehensive care they deserve.

The organization has grown exponentially from that house in Bloomington. With nearly 800 team members and multiple locations across Illinois and Missouri, including spots in Wood River and Granite City, they are committed to helping community members live their best, healthiest, happiest lives.

“Guided by a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and whole-person care, Chestnut continues to strengthen communities, improve lives, and provide hope for those navigating everyday challenges,” Raglin added.
