Alfonso L. West, 22, of Alton, was charged on June 2, 2026 with two counts of aggravated battery (both Class 2 felonies) and one count each of threatening a public official (a Class 3 felony) and disorderly conduct (a Class C misdemeanor).
West allegedly knowingly threw items inside a Hit-N-Run convenience store, struck two responding Alton Police officers in the face, and threatened to take the lives of the responding officers.
According to the state’s petition to deny West’s pretrial release from custody, officers responded to a disturbance at Hit-N-Run, where West was reportedly “intoxicated and throwing items around the store.”
“Defendant was found unresponsive inside,” the petition states. “Officers moved to secure him and defendant began to pull away from officers, elbowing one in the face and kicking another in the face.”
West was eventually secured and found to be intoxicated with alcohol, but had no narcotics in his system. The petition notes that “during transport, he repeatedly threatened to kill the officers involved.”
The Alton Police Department presented the case against West, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
