ALTON - As RiverBender.com and host Brian Trust celebrate the two-year anniversary of the podcast “You’re Beautiful,” Trust explains how the experience has shaped his faith.
“You’re Beautiful” features powerful conversations about faith at 2 p.m. every Thursday on RiverBender.com. Trust often invites local guests to share their testimonies, and he is open about his own budding relationship with God.
“My mission has always been, at the end of every episode, that we’ve just reached one,” Trust said. “I have my struggles. A lot of times, I call this podcast my therapy. This is going to sound crazy. I was saved, but the show has also saved me.”
Trust is candid about how he found God later in life. He didn’t grow up in the church, and it wasn’t until his late 40s that he began attending regular services and building a relationship with God. He was baptized in 2019.
He felt a calling to share his faith with others, which led him to approach RiverBender owner John Hentrich about starting a podcast on the platform. Two years later, Trust is grateful for the opportunity to engage with listeners every week.
“The reason why I really want to give the Hentrich family and RiverBender.com so much gratitude and so much thanks is because it’s a big risk for them,” he said. “Here I am, talking about God and Jesus on their platform. Sometimes that could drive people away. So I applaud them for allowing this air time to go ahead and speak of His glory and the goodness of God. I believe my intentions are 100% pure, to speak of the goodness of God.”
With two years of shows under his belt, Trust has welcomed people with a variety of stories. Each guest has a unique testimony and experience to share, encouraging listeners to develop their relationship with God as a way to overcome challenges.
“Some of those guests have been through it all. But they’re the ones that are the most grateful. It’s amazing. And honestly, it’s what keeps me going,” Trust said. “Through the guests, you meet these people that become extended family. This is God’s work.”
To begin each episode, Trust plays the song “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. This song inspires him to “make a change” and push himself to be a better person. He urges his listeners to not wait, but rather to choose today to make a difference in their lives.
The best way to do this, Trust believes, is by growing your relationship with God. He shared that he now knows peace, a powerful feeling that guides him through any challenges, because his faith overcomes his fear. He encourages people to take that first step and pray.
“I’ve been through it. My guests have been through it. You have to experience it for yourself to truly know and understand peace. You get that through a relationship with Jesus,” he explained. “Don’t ever think that it’s too late, that whatever you’re dealing with, you can’t reach out to Him.”
Trust is the first to admit he isn’t perfect. His “flesh life” has been filled with normal, imperfect experiences.
But he is working hard to become a better person through his relationship with God. He believes you must be “right” in order to help others, and he encourages people to invest a few minutes in themselves every day to pray, give thanks or learn more about God.
Trust hopes the podcast helps people who feel imperfect, who struggle and who want to know more about God. Two years after the first episode, he is proud of what the podcast has accomplished and how it has empowered others, just like it has empowered him to build his own faith.
“When I tell you that the ‘You’re Beautiful’ podcast is my church, that’s me admitting to you that I still have faults. I still fall short. I want to work on being better,” he said. “God uses broken people to make a difference, and that’s what this podcast is about. That’s why I titled it, to remind people, you’re beautiful. The only thing holding you back is you.”
