Kenneth E. Douglas, 37, of Alton, was charged on May 19, 2026 with two Class 4 felony counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, one Class 4 felony count of aggravated assault of a peace officer, and one count each of resisting a peace officer and driving while license is revoked, both Class A misdemeanors.
Douglas allegedly attempted to flee from an Alton Police officer at over 80 mph in a residential neighborhood on May 18, 2026. During his attempted flight, he is accused of driving his vehicle towards the officer’s vehicle and ignoring multiple traffic control devices.
On the same date, Douglas reportedly resisted arrest by fleeing on foot from the same officer after driving a motor vehicle on Alby Street in Alton while his driver’s license had been revoked.
According to the state’s petition to deny Douglas’s pretrial release from custody, he failed to yield when officers “attempted a traffic stop for registration issues.”
“The driver failed to yield, instead reversing course and nearly striking the officer's vehicle while fleeing at over 80 mph in a residential neighborhood,” the petition states. “Defendant then accelerated to over 100 mph in a 45 mph zone, disregarding multiple red lights, until he lost control and struck a utility pole. Defendant then fled on foot until he was apprehended by a police K9.”
At the time of this latest offense, the petition notes Douglas had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court while the revocation of his probation was still pending from a 2018 case of felony criminal property damage totaling over $10,000.
The Alton Police Department presented the latest case against Douglas, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
