ALTON - Michael H. Holliday Jr., regarded as one of the best bowlers to ever come out of the region, is being remembered by friends and family for his smile and kindness. He died Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his residence. He was 57 years old.

Michael "Doc" Holliday Sr., a Madison County Board member, is Michael Holliday Jr.'s father. Michael Holliday, Sr., was elected to the Madison County Board District 8 in 1998. Holliday was the son of Michael “Doc” Holliday Sr. and Priscilla Holliday of Alton.

In a statement, the Holliday family thanked relatives, friends, and community members for their support following Michael Jr.'s death.

“Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming love, support, and prayers shown during the passing of Michael Holliday Jr. During this difficult time, your kindness and compassion have brought us some comfort and strength,” the family said.

The Holliday family added: “Thank you to everyone who prayed, visited, called, sent cards, flowers, sent or prepared meals, acts of service, gifts, and messages of encouragement. Every thoughtful gesture, prayer, and act of support has meant so much to our family and will never be forgotten.”

They also said, “We are deeply grateful to be surrounded by such a caring community. Your love has helped carry us through this time of sorrow, and we sincerely appreciate each and every one of you.”

Brian Grammer, who said he grew up with Holliday, remembered him as both a strong bowler and a longtime friend.

“Michael and I grew up together. Little League in the summer and bowling in the fall, winter and spring,” Grammer said. “He put together the best junior bowling team to ever roll on the lanes at Bowl Haven.”

Grammer said the two lost touch after graduation when he moved away, but he would still ask about Holliday when he saw members of the family.

“He was quick with a smile and a kind word. I’ll miss him,” Grammer said.

Becca Mesey, a cousin, made this statement about Michael Jr.:

"I love you, cousin; you have touched so many people in your lifetime that you just didn't know. I am gonna miss you so much. Prayers to your mom, dad, and many family and friends. Until we meet again."
