On Saturday, May 23, 2026, community members from across the region are invited to Firemen’s Park in Maryville for a day of barbecue, games, live music and more. There will also be a ribbon-cutting at 5 p.m. to mark the installation of the new American Legion Entertainment Pavilion. Mayor Wayne White encourages people to come out and have fun.

“If you don’t already have those Memorial Day plans, come to Maryville. Enjoy the day with us,” he said. “I promise no one will go home hungry, thirsty or without a smile on their face.”
The day starts at 9 a.m. with a breakfast from Betty Lou’s Table and Lucky Liberty, two veteran-owned businesses. Veterans and current service members eat for free.
Lunch and dinner will be served starting at 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. A pig will be roasted throughout the day, and pulled pork sandwiches are available starting at 4 p.m. White noted he was looking to offer something “a little unique,” which inspired the pig roast.
Beer trucks and additional drinks will be available; no outside alcohol is allowed.
Attendees of all ages can compete in a bags tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. onsite, and it costs $10 to participate.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the entertainment pavilion is planned for 5 p.m. White shared that the pavilion is named for American Legion Post #917, which recently closed in Maryville. As a final act of goodwill, the post donated their remaining funds to the village “to help kickstart the community, but also be used to remember our fallen heroes.”
The village chose to use the money for the pavilion. White is excited for the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the pavilion, and he thanked the people and volunteers who worked hard to make it happen.
“Finally, after literally years of codework, blood, sweat, tears and fundraising, it is coming to fruition on Saturday here in Maryville,” he said.
Sailing with Scott Marlin takes the stage at 6 p.m. on Saturday for a concert at the pavilion. White expressed his excitement to welcome Marlin and his band, pointing out that many of the musicians live in Maryville or surrounding communities.
He added that the village chose to have this celebration around Memorial Day because they wanted to honor the American Legion and fallen service members. It’s important to Maryville residents to show their pride in the country and their gratitude for the military.
“It means so much to the entire community,” White said. “This community rallies around first responders and our military and our heroes, and that’s what this dedication ceremony is all about on Saturday. We specifically planned it for the Saturday of Memorial Day so we could remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us so we have the freedoms that we have here in the United States.”
