Edwardsville didn't waste any time getting off on the right foot, as in the first, Baugh led off with a base hit, and was immediately doubled home by Jack Kirgan to make the score 1-0. One out later, Nick Chiarodo reached on an error, Kirgan going to third, and a Joel Fields grounder to third scored Kirgan to put the Tigers up 2-0.
In the Edwardsville second, Ty Hunt led off with a single, with both Sutton Leas and Zane Maxwell reaching on back-to-back errors to load the bases. Baugh then singled home Hunt and Leas to make the score 4-0, Maxwell stopping at second, and after Kirgan drew a walk to reload the bases, Tyson Wampler singled home two more runs to make it 6-0 for Edwardsville, all happening with no one out. With runners at the corners and two out, Nolan Vojak singled home Kirgan, and Hunt brought in Chiarodo with an RBI single to give the Tigers an 8-0 lead before the inning ended.
The Rockets got their only hit in the fourth on a two-out single by Ajay Runkel, and in the Edwardsville fifth, Hunt drew a walk to lead off, went to second when Sean Murphy reached on an error, and back-to-back walks to Maxwell and Baugh forced in Hunt to make the score 9-0. The Tigers had little trouble seeing off the Rockets the rest of the way, as Edwardsville secured the 9-0 win.
Baugh led the way for the Tigers with his two-hit, three-RBI game at the plate, while Hunt had two hits, Wampler had a hit and two RBIs, and both Kirgan and Vojak had a hit and RBI each, Tony Eberlin started on the mound, and went for three innings, not allowing a hit or run, walking one and striking out six, while Baugh pitched in the fourth, and gave up the only hit while walking none and fanning one, and Dunnill pitched brilliantly in the final three innings, not allowing a hit or run, walking none and striking out three.

The winner of the semifinal moves on to the final on May 30 against either Quincy or Collinsville at 10 a.m.
The Edwardsville winner meets the Belleville East regional winner in a neutral site game in the Normal Community sectional on June 3, the site and start time to be announced, with the sectional final Round of 16 game set for June 6 at 11 a.m. The sectional winner advances to the Normal Community super-sectional quarterfinal game against the winner of the Lockport Township sectional on June 8 at 6 p.m. The state finals are set for June 12-13 at Slammers Stadium in Joliet, with the Normal Community super-sectional winner meeting the Kane County Cougars super-sectional winner in the i first semifinal at 4 p.m on June 12. The third-place game is set for June 13 at 4 p.m, while the championship game will be played at 7 p.m.
