McAdams secured a spot in the finals with an outstanding performance in the prelims, moving into fourth place in the discus standings. She tossed 37.64 meters in the prelims with her best score. A Nashville thrower has a 39.98 meters for first place so far. McAdams was the discus winner in the Carlinville 1A Sectional last week.
“I came yesterday (Wednesday) to warm up in the ring,” McAdams said. “I did it last year, and I know I can throw far, really focused on my technique.”
McAdams said the state-level atmosphere, with excited and large crowds, also helped fuel the performance.
“I like to throw in front of the big crowds," she said. "It gives you energy to get a big throw,” McAdams said.
McAdams also said family and Carrollton school tradition provided added motivation.
“My siblings all did track for Carrollton, and I want to keep the success going for Carrollton and my family,” McAdams said.
