TRENTON, Ill. — A 59-year-old man identified as David Jordan died after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday in the 200 block of Wesclin Road in rural Trenton, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office.

At 11:51 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Clinton County Sheriff Dan Travous said on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Law enforcement and EMS responded to the scene and found Jordan with head and chest injuries, Travous said. Travous said first responders immediately began rendering aid.

The man was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, where he later died, according to the sheriff’s office.

The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Jordan. Authorities said he was a member of the New Baden Police Department and was off duty at the time.
