In late July, parents and caregivers will stop by the Alton High School gymnasium for in-person registration. Families must bring certain documents and information to registration to ensure their children are ready to go for the school year. Director of Student Services Angela Kuchnicki explained that the goal is to connect with the community.

“We are excited to bring back centralized in-person registration,” she said. “We’re really trying to build back that personal connection with our students and families and tie it to the school community.”

Registration is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 28 and 29 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 30. Families must attend one of these dates to register their children for school.

If your family is new to the Alton School District, call 618-474-2600 to enroll your child. Returning families can complete the “Intent to Return” form now through Skyward Family Web Access. This information allows Kuchnicki and her team to begin planning for staffing, transportation, class placements and student services.

The district has offered online registration for many years. But after implementing their Reimagine Alton project, administrators have received feedback that people miss the in-person opportunities to meet with staff members, ask questions, and learn about resources. This inspired the district to require in-person registration this year.

Kuchnicki is excited to greet new and returning families on July 28, 29 and 30. She believes the in-person registration is a chance for people to engage with the schools before the school year starts.

“It’s really key to the success of the transition into the upcoming school year,” she explained. “It gives families that chance, especially new families with new buildings, that time to connect with school staff before the year begins. Meet the principal. Meet that office staff. They’re such key partners. It gives them a familiar face, and they can feel welcomed and supported while they’re entering that new school year.”

Kuchnicki added that the in-person registration will allow school representatives to assist families in real time. Parents can also receive information about the SIHF Clinic, which is available on the Alton High School campus and can provide back-to-school and sports physicals.

As the district prepares for summer, Kuchnicki shared that she will be focused on transportation and organizing other resources for families. She encourages parents to complete the “Intent to Return” form as soon as possible, and she is eager to meet all the students and families at in-person registration.

“When they come to this event, it’s one central location,” she added. “They can have all that information to assist families right there in real time and try to get them answers and support so they’re ready to start the school year.”
