The repair work involves a 36-inch pipe, according to Illinois American Water. The lane closure is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 14.
During the closure, motorists will be routed north on Henry Street to East Broadway Street and back to IL-67 Landmarks Boulevard, the company said. Illinois American Water advised drivers to use caution in the area and follow traffic signs, detour routes and flaggers, and said motorists should avoid the area if possible.
The company said water and wastewater service to customers in the area will not be impacted by the repair work.
“Illinois American Water is committed to working as safely and quickly as possible,” the company said in a statement. Once repairs are complete, roadway restoration will begin and “may take several days,” it said.
The road closure and detour are expected to last through the afternoon of Saturday, May 16, 2026, according to the company.
