GODFREY – Lewis and Clark Community College’s Avionics program will offer three courses in Fall 2026. Designed to expand opportunities and provide hands-on experience, the courses will prepare students interested in careers in aviation and aircraft maintenance.

  • Intro to Aircraft Systems (AVIO-131) 9 – 10:50 A.M. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 25 – Oct. 15
    • Introduces the basics of flight, aircraft systems, FAA regulations, and foundational aircraft electrical knowledge.
  • Basic Aircraft Wiring & Tools (AVIO-132) 9 – 10:50 A.M. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 20 – Dec. 17
    • Introduces aircraft wiring fundamentals, tool usage, and maintenance practices, along with reading technical drawings and understanding aircraft location reference systems.
  • Aircraft Comm & Cont Systems (AVIO-133) 11 – 1:30 P.M. Tuesdays, Aug. 25 – Dec. 15
    • Builds on basic electronics and focuses on AC and digital circuits, testing equipment, and troubleshooting. Students learn the fundamentals of aircraft communication, navigation, autopilot, and engine monitoring systems.

“Lewis and Clark’s Avionics courses prepare students for aviation careers by combining hands-on training with real-world applications,” Workforce Training Coordinator Beth Arrowsmith said. “These courses help build a strong workforce pipeline for regional employers while enhancing the college’s reputation in technical education.”

AVIO-131 and AVIO-132 are web-blended courses, combining online and classroom instruction. All three courses are located at the N.O. Nelson Campus in Edwardsville and will be taught by Avionics Professor Amanda Hill.

LC’s Avionics program focuses on career awareness as well as work-based learning for a comprehensive student experience, supported by student services like L&C Career Services.
