GILLESPIE - Chaz Oberkfell, the legendary Gillespie distance runner, claimed three individual first places in the Macoupin County Meet on May 7, 2026.
Chaz won the 800 meters (2:00.29), the 1,600 meters (4:38.28), and the 3,200 meters (9:30.44).

He anchored the 4 x 400 relay for the Miners, which won with a time of 3:39.37 for a remarkable four first places in the county meet. Gillespie's Dane Disselhorst, Frank Montoro and Al Reisinger were other members of that relay.
He was also the South Central Conference Meet champion in the 800 meters (1:58.24). He recorded a 1:55.50 in the 800 meters, a personal best on May 1 in the Jockish-Gradone Invite.
Chaz won the conference championship in the 3,200 at the South Central Conference Meet on May 6 with a time of 9:37.56. Chaz's P.R. in the 3,200 was set on April 25, 2026, in the Distance Night in Palatine Presented by Asics (8:59.34). Chaz's personal best in the 400 meters was set on April 22, in a meet at Gillespie (51.74.
Oberkfell now appears primed for sectional and state success in his respective events in the next few weeks.
