JERSEYVILLE – Julie Muenstermann has helped students across Jersey 100 succeed for the past 32 years. This Teacher Appreciation Week, she reflected on her path into a rewarding – and sometimes unpredictable – career.

Muenstermann has taught K-12 physical education in every building in Jersey Community Unit School District 100. She currently teaches at Jersey Community High School and is preparing for retirement this year after 32 years with the district.
“I am truly blessed to have taught and coached in Jersey 100 my whole career,” Muenstermann said. “I have enjoyed my time here and appreciate the support the community has given me over the years.”
Muenstermann’s path into education started when she was an active student-athlete herself. She recalled one of her coaches having student-athletes work with younger athletes during summer camps, which is where she first discovered her love of teaching.
One challenging aspect of her job has been the inability to control everything that affects her students, as well as “things that pop up unexpectedly.” But the unpredictability of the job is also one of the reasons she most enjoyed working with students.
“The students can be unpredictable and curious,” she said. “There is never a dull moment.”
She said her favorite part of the job has been watching her students go on to succeed, adding that “watching kids develop over time is very rewarding.”
After retirement, Muenstermann plans on camping, gardening, traveling and spending more time with her family and friends.
