The Crimsons improve to 17-6, while Jersey is now 16-6.

STAUNTON 7, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 2: Staunton scored twice in the third and once in the fourth before breaking open the game with four runs in the seventh to defeat Marquette at Lloyd Hopkins Field at Gordon Moore Park.

Joe Stephan had three hits for the Explorers, while Robert Roentz had two hits and an RBI. Cohen Green struck out four while on the mound.

The Bulldogs are now 13-10, while Marquette drops back to 8-12.

In other games played on Saturday, Mascoutah defeated Freeburg 11-0, Effingham St. Anthony Catholic nipped Breese Mater Dei Catholic 2-1, Springfield Lanphier won over White Hall North Greene 12-0, DuQuoin shut out Waterloo 3-0, and El Paso-Gridley won over East St. Louis 23-4.

In a tournament played at Rockwood Lafayette in Ballwin, Mo., Belleville Althoff Catholic lost twice, to Francis Howell Central of Cottleville, Mo., in St. Charles County, 25-18, 25-20, then to DeSmet Jesuit of Creve Coeur, Mo. 25-16, 25-7.

Edwardsville also competed at Lafayette over the weekend, and on Friday, the Tigers won over Wentzville, Mo. North Point of St. Charles County 25-22, 21-25, 27-25, then lost to Rockwood Marquette of Chesterfield, Mo., in west St. Louis County 19-25, 25-18, 27-25. On Saturday, Edwardsville won all three of their matches, defeating Mehlville, Mo., of south St. Louis County, 25-21, 18-25, 25-12, won over Francis Howell of Weldon Spring, Mo., in St. Charles County, 25-22, 25-23, and won over Eureka, Mo., of southwest St. Louis County, 25-23, 25-16.

GIRLS SOCCER

In the only match involving an area team on Saturday, in a tournament in Bettendorf, Ia., Belleville West won its third straight game of the meet, winning over Morton 7-0.

SOFTBALL

CARLYLE 1, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 0: The game was scoreless all the way to the bottom of the seventh, when homestanding Carlyle scored the only run of the game to take the win over EAWR on Friday.

Ellie Beechum and Emily Fry had the only hits for the Oilers, while Beechum fanned 15 in throwing a complete game in the circle.

The Indians are now 7-11, while EAWR goes to 5-15.

In games played on Saturday, Columbia split a doubleheader with Centralia, the Eagles winning the first game 3-2, with the Orphan Annies winning the second game 10-2, Johnston City got past Breese Mater Dei Catholic 3-2, and O'Fallon won over Carbondale 10-2.
