MARYVILLE, Ill. — The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded the Maryville Fire Department a $19,508 grant to buy a LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System, replacing an older model and expanding access to updated resuscitation equipment, the department said Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

The grant is intended to help the department maintain the tools it needs to respond effectively in emergencies as first responders continue serving the Village of Maryville.

The new chest compression system will replace an older unit that has reached the end of its serviceable life. The department said the device will be placed in service on a new ambulance expected to arrive in May, allowing both frontline ambulances to be outfitted with the latest chest compression technology.

The LUCAS 3 Chest Compression equipment is also expected to benefit EMS providers by providing continuous and uninterrupted chest compressions during a resuscitation attempt.

LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System is an automated portable device that delivers consistent, high-quality, and uninterrupted CPR to cardiac arrest patients at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. It reduces caregiver fatigue and improves safety during transport.

“We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Collinsville for this vital support,” said Doug Dankenbring, fire chief of the Maryville Fire Department. “Having reliable, up-to-date equipment enhances our ability to protect lives and better serve our community.”

The grant is part of more than $107 million awarded by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to support public safety across the U.S., according to the foundation. The organization said it has awarded more than 7,200 grants totaling more than $107 million to public safety organizations since 2005.

Established in 2005 by the founders of Firehouse Subs, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides lifesaving equipment, prevention education, scholarships and continued education, and disaster relief to first responders and public safety organizations, as well as support for military veterans. The foundation said it holds a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
