In another match on Monday, Jersey defeated Alton 6-3. Jersey led 2-1 after doubles and won four of six singles matches. Both teams were competitives in all the matches, Macias said.

“We came out playing really well in doubles. All three matches were close and it hurt only getting one of them,” Macias said. “But, we showed a lot of focus and grit in the doubles matches. Jerseyville just played too good.”

“There was some good drama in singles. Both teams played really well today,” Macias said.

In doubles, Jerseyville’s Borkowski and Slusser won 9-7 over Hanebutt and Humphrey at No. 1, and Roberts and Edwards won 9-8 over Nik Tuetken and Joe Ventimiglia at No. 2. Alton’s Griffin Clark and Connor Cochran won at No. 3, 8-5 over Diamond and Decker.

“Griffin and Connor picking up the doubles win was nice,” Macias said. “They have good chemistry and that goes a long way in doubles.”
