Acting Chief Ryan Dugger presented Lifesaving Awards to Patrolman Alex Dodge, Detective Brad Henry, and Sergeant Jordan Lind at the April 13, 2026 Bethalto Village Board meeting. Fire Department Paramedic Patrick Kelly also earned a Lifesaving Award but was not present at the meeting.

Dugger said the three officers arrived at the 500 block of Spencer Street on April 7, 2026 in response to an EMS report of an unresponsive male in his 70s who was not breathing.

“Upon arrival, Patrolman Dodge immediately observed that the male subject did not have a pulse and immediately began CPR and lifesaving measures,” Dugger said. “Sergeant Lind and Detective Henry assisted with the lifesaving measures, along with Bethalto Fire Paramedic Patrick Kelly.”

Dugger said the male was then transported from the scene via ambulance to Alton Memorial Hospital. The man’s daughter, who was initially willing to be at the April 13 meeting for the award presentation, informed Dugger that her father died the day prior on April 12. She still thanked the first responders involved for their efforts.

“She wanted to express her sincere gratitude and thanks to these officers and the paramedics for the extra five days that they were able to have [with] her father,” Dugger said.

He then presented Dodge, Henry, and Lind with their awards to a standing ovation from meeting attendees.

“In recognition of your actions on the seventh day of April 2026 during a medical emergency which resulted in the saving of a human life, your proper application of training, experience, and equipment exemplifies your dedication to duty, to the preservation of life, and to the service of this community,” Dugger said. “I can’t thank you three enough, and Paramedic Kelly as well.”
