Fire Chief Keith Norman confirmed at this week’s City Council meeting that first responders are participating in a training exercise at the middle school from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. While emergency vehicles may be seen at the school and sports complex, he assured council and community members there is no emergency at the site.

The emergency drill will involve staff members of Jersey Community Unit School District No. 100, but will not involve any students, as they are not in session today. The school district and fire department also posted announcements via social media giving the public prior notice of the training exercise.
